Help your child kick off the New Year right with these easy tips. January is the perfect time for a fresh start. Have you discussed with your child what his goals are for the New Year? Allow him to set his own goals, so he can truly experience the satisfaction of seeing them through to the end. If your child is self-motivated, he is likely to have a vested interest in achieving his personal goals. Having individual goals to work towards brings purpose to the actions in our daily lives. Having a conversation with your child about what he would like to improve and accomplish can open doors to expand his horizons. Here are some tips on discussing goal setting with your child and keeping up with goals all year long. Keep the goals realistic, specific and measurable. Itâs important to not overwhelm your child with too many goals. Help narrow them down to a couple and make sure they are realistic and measurable. We want our kids to learn the importance of following through on every goal. Create a plan of action. After deciding on the goal, plan the necessary steps needed to achieve success. There is a big difference between wanting to achieve something and actually doing it. Parents play an important part in helping children get there. Help your child stick with it. Have your child commit his goal to a family member, teacher or friend in order to develop accountability and stay on track. Check in periodically to see how heâs doing and if the plan to achieve the goal(s)needs to be adjusted. Keep the goal in mind. Displaying a goal in a visible place like the wall in the kitchen can serve as a good reminder. Reflecting on how far your child has come and where he wants to go next is an invaluable activity. 3 Tips for Success in an Online Course
3 Tips for Success in an Online Course Photo by rawpixel.com from Pexels Highlight Deadlines The first thing you should do when taking an online class is find, highlight, and mark down when your deadlines are. You need to know when every assignment is due by and when every quiz or test must be taken. You need to make sure no deadline slips by you, which is very easy to have happen in an online course because you do not have professors and TAâs reminding you daily of upcoming deadlines. It is up to you to get it all set up and get it done. There is almost no worse feeling when taking an online course than failing an assignmentâ"not because you actually did poorly on itâ"but simply because you failed or forgot to actually do it. Time can go by so quickly in an online course because you are, of course, doing other things. You do not want to be surprised by a deadline, thinking you had more time to get a task completed and then being unable to finish it on time or at all. And this does not just include actual assignments, but any task you need to complete in the course. Do you have to sign up for a time to take your exam? Is there a deadline for when you can sign up for the exam? Mark it down and make sure you do not miss the deadline to sign up for your exam. How awful would it be to tank your exam simply because you never signed up for it on time? However you need to highlight your deadlines so that you remember it, do it. Write it down in your plan, or leave yourself reminders on your phone, or set it in your google calendar so that it will automatically remind you. Whatever will work best for you, do it. And set it up at the very beginning of the course so that nothing slips by you. Set Aside Time Another way students often fail themselves when taking an online course is not setting aside time for themselves to actually get the work done that is required of them. You have a set time put aside every day to attend your classâ"you should set aside a specific time every day to get your coursework done for your online classes as well. Online classes are not just assignment after assignment. You often have readings to do or video lectures to watch. If you wait until the last minute to even see what you have due, you may not have the time to get your work done before its deadline. By setting aside time specifically devoted to completing your online coursework, you are much more likely to get it done. It could be the same time every day, or you could devote specific days of the week to your online course. Whatever you find most effective, or the most effective time to get your work accomplished, you should do. Photo by bruce mars from Pexels Do Not Wait A lot of these tips have to do with time management, because time management is the thing that students enrolled in online courses struggle with the most. Whatever you do while taking an online course is not to wait until the last minute to do or turn in an assignment. What if you get to an assignment the night before it is due and find there are many, many steps to it that you were unaware of and that there is no possible way you can get the assignment done in time? What if you missed the window to sign up for your final exam and now are ineligible to even take it? What if itâs 11:50 p.m., your assignment is due at midnight, and your online course platform is having technical issues? Or it is storming so your WiFi connection is not strong enough for you to upload your assignment? Or your mom accidentally spilled coffee on your laptop, which is the only place you have the file for your assignment? Avoid any of these potential disasters and just get your stuff done and in on time.

Biological Chemistry and the Digestive System
Biological Chemistry and the Digestive SystemMany think that the chemical messes created by digestion are somehow unwanted by the human body. There is no question as to the fact that a chemical system is required for digestion but is it necessary to create a whole new one just to help out with our digestive system? When this system is well maintained, the body will be able to maintain its nutrients in more quantities and improve our digestion. Our anatomy is very important in understanding how chemical systems work and how they interact with one another. It is due to the fact that there are only two kinds of chemical systems and they are catalytic and non-catalytic. The first is active and the second is passive. An active system is one that does all the work to break down food so that it can be used by the body. An example of an active system is a must in a car. It gets active when the engine starts to make the rusting process. However, the car engine must work with the transmission, e ngine and other parts in order to complete the rusting process.A passive chemical system is one that works passively. For example, bacteria in the stomach do all the work during digestion by moving the food from the mouth into the stomach and through the alimentary canal. As you can see, every person's stomach has the ability to swallow and ingest only certain types of food. This means that we cannot survive without being able to digest. A passive system would not be able to absorb the food's nutrients because it is unable to break down the food's protein. Our first reaction to a chemical system is to throw it away in favor of something that can absorb the nutrients easier. However, that does not have to be the case. Most importantly, the digestive system is already in existence. The second best thing to do is to always create a balance in the systems by applying some science on both active systems and passive systems. Only by understanding how the active and passive systems function and relate with one another can we create a better, healthier, more efficient and longer digestive system. It is important to always include active systems in the equation for the best results. By making a few changes to the chemistry of your digestive system, you can create the perfect environment for a healthy digestive system.

Although we now know the possible benefits of taking coaching courses, we must try to set a fair price for this service.Personal Development Coaches On SuperprofOn the Superprof platform, there are now many professional coac hes ready to help you: everyone can claim to be competent to coach since there is no government-recognized or imposed coach training that one must complete be able to practice.First of all, there are more than 3000 professional coaching teachers on Superprof: most of which offer online tuition (through Skype of the likes) meaning you can learn online how to manage stress or better approach interpersonal relationships with coaches throughout the UK!For in-person sessions, it is necessary to compare the prices in each city and there, the offer becomes less abundant especially if you live in a medium-sized city (Newcastle, Bristol, Liverpool, Brighton, etc.).In London, a professional coaching service will cost on average £45 per hour. When it comes to person-to-person services, this is pretty expensive considering the coaching is financed by personal funds. The plus side is that more often than not, there is no need for numerous individual sessions to achieve concrete results. The funda mental objectives of coaching are indeed speed, intensity and the low number of sessions planned.Rates in London range from £15 per hour to £200, with a plethora of profiles ranging from £35 to £50 per hour.Do you need to climb the ladder of your professional environment in Manchester, to do a market study, to evolve professionally? Contact a coach in Manchester!Your coach is here to guide you on the corporate playfiedl, not to take your place in the game. (Source: pixabay.com)In-House Company Coaching: What Does It Cost?As we have already mentioned in a previous article on the subject, coaching rates depend on the professional coach, the nature of the coaching (team coaching, individual interview, company coach), the position of the coachee and the tools used to enable clients to achieve their objectives. On average, the price of a session can increase to £600 or £700 when a company uses a coaching firm on behalf of one or more of its employees. The price range, therefore, rang es from £150 to £650 excluding taxes (excluding VAT) on average. This is a fairly wide price range because each service provider is free to set their own prices and it is quite impossible for us to make an exhaustive inventory of all the tariffs applied throughout the UK.A coach certified by a recognized coaching school will, in theory, be more expensive than a self-proclaimed coach even though they may be able to prove to have 15 or 20 years of experience in team management or human resources management. The larger the company, the higher the coaching fee will be because the managers of large corporations will have to face more important challenges than for a small local company. Moreover, it can be observed that the higher the level of the coachee's is, the higher the hourly rate will be: indeed, it is considered that through a runoff effect, the benefits of coaching will have an effect on all the coachee's employees. But at the end of the action plan, the bill quickly reaches sign ificant sums: a certified professional coach usually invoices between £4,000 and £8,000 excluding tax for executive or top manager coaching and between £10,000 and £16,000 excluding tax for team coaching. The challenge is, therefore, even for a large company, to get a quick return on investment. Here are some other examples of rates you can find on the web: £520 ex. VAT for an initial diagnosis for the support of executives, managers and top managers, Between £900 and £1600 ex. VAT per day for trainers, team building coaching. So if the company orders between 5 and 10 days of coaching for their employee, the invoice will quickly amount to a total ranging from £8,000 to £16,000.Do not forget that this investment in human capital will bring productivity gains and high added value to the production of services: in short, the company will hope in return, through a multiplier effect, to increase its turnover tenfold thanks to initially very expensive coaching.Improving your charism a, speaking in public and getting better at negotiating are all skills that a professional coach can help with. How Much To Pay For Personal Coaching SessionsSlowing down spending on supervision or skills assessment can obscure the prospects for professional retraining, and lead to stagnation. In other words, having followed a coaching program for the development of skills - non-violent communication, emotional management, preparing for a job start, a job interview, etc. - is essential and can be a catalyst for important benefits (well-being at work or higher wages).Personal coaching is financed by the coachee himself and may seem expensive since it weighs on their own budget. But don't be horrified or scream at the sight of three-digit rates: most of the time, the coaching training program will revolve around 4 or 5 two-hour sessions. In monetary terms, we are well below the hours of home-school support for a middle or high school student over a whole school year.In London and througho ut the Greater London region, prices are always higher than elsewhere in the UK since real estate and cost of living are higher. This is why the average price for a coaching session in London revolves around £100 an hour whereas it is only around £60 or 70 £ an hour in other British cities. For example, a coaching training plan in Manchester for 5 sessions could cost between £350 and £600: the equivalent of a month rent.Of course, this represents a sacrifice, but not necessarily an impoverishment. In fact, individual coaching sessions should be considered as deferred income.Greater London residents can always benefit from lower prices by seeking the expertise of a coaching firm in Manchester, Liverpool or Birmingham, but it will then be necessary to pay the transport costs (train, motorway and petrol or carpooling). Not sure that the cost related to travel expenses compensates for the gain made by avoiding London coaches!Another way to reduce your bill is to use a remote coaching s ervice. Video conferencing can be a way to find a professional coach worldwide without burning through your savings!
How To Find New Interesting Guitar Chords Using a Capo
How To Find New Interesting Guitar Chords Using a Capo Suzy S. So youve memorized the basic major and minor chords, and learned a few easy guitar songs. Whats next? Check out what a capo can do for you in this guest post by Perth Amboy, NJ teacher Jeff S... In case youre unfamiliar with a capo, theyre those metal devices that clip onto the neck of a guitar, as you see in the photo above. If youre a guitarist and you dont own a capo yet, but are curious about them, my hope is that youll want to get one after reading this article. And for guitarists who already own a capo but havent fully exploited its potential, this article should tweak your interest. What Exactly Can a Capo Do For Me? Capos come in incredibly handy in instantly providing a one-step solution to play along with songs written and sung in keys unfriendly to guitar (such as Ab, Bb, Eb, Cm, Fm, etc.). For instance, if you wanted to play Adeles Rollin In The Deep on guitar so that it matches up with the recording, all youd have to do is put the capo at the 3rd fret and play Am, E, G, and F chords (that you likely already know in 1st position). Simple, huh? There are countless other songs you can use capos for to play on guitar, even if they werent written on guitar or if theres no guitar in the recording. All you need is basic guitar chord knowledge. How Does It Affect the Sound? Depending on how far down the neck the capo needs to be placed to match up with the key of a song, it can either subtly or drastically alter the personality of them. The results will vary from song to song, but capos will immediately render new tonal colors, increasing the brightness and making your playing and songwriting more diverse and engaging. If you want to hear some amazing examples of how magical songs can sound with capos, listen to the Beatles classic Here Comes The Sun, written by the late great George Harrison. The capo is on the 7th fret, which creates a feeling of optimism and sparkle that would be completely missing without the capo. The use of the capo has increased exponentially since then and just about every artist (or their guitarist) has one and uses it extensively. Check out the incredibly mood-inducing and engaging capoed guitar on Passengers Let Her Go and the guitar work on Taylor Swifts Safe And Sound, for example. If youre still in doubt about the power of the capo, try playing those songs without the capo and listen to the difference. What If Im Not Super-Knowledgeable About Keys and Chord Names? You can effectively integrate the capo into your playing even if you know little to nothing about music theory and dont know too many chord names. Let me illustrate: say you want to create a higher-pitched G chord. Just clamp your capo on the 5th fret and play a conventional D chord form (see chart below) and you will instantly hear it in a crisp and refreshing new way. Next, lets say you want to brighten up the otherwise deep and dull E chord in first position. Just clamp your capo on the 7th fret and play a standard (1st position) version of an A chord (again, see chart). Voila! Youve instantly brightened the previously low-end E chord. Play that while your jam partner or singer plays the conventional E chord and youve got a very rich tonally-diverse sound. Familiarize yourself with all the capoed versions of the major and minor chords in the chart and soon youll be thanking the capo gods every night. Is There an Easy Way to Get Started With My Capo? You bet! I suggest you pick out two or three of your favorite guitar songs that youre really comfortable with and can almost play blindfolded. Then use the chart below to find different places further down the neck to play the chords that youve been playing in 1st position. Try several voicings of the chords until you find one youre drawn to. Relearn the song using a capo and these new chord shapes. Just doing this will widen your tonal range on the guitar without you having to play (much more challenging) barre chords, and it will also add a new chordal dimension to your playing. And the added benefit is that these new capoed versions of your favorite songs will make your future jams much more interesting. All you really need to get started on your capo adventure is a little time, an open mind, and (of course) a capo! 5 Common Reasons to Quit Playing Guitar... And What You Can Do to Stick With It
5 Common Reasons to Quit Playing Guitar... And What You Can Do to Stick With It Maile Proctor Dont let the title fool you, were not encouraging you to quit guitar. In fact, we want to help you stick with it. Oftentimes when people decide to learn an instrument, they end up quitting before they realize their full potential. Here, Irvine, CA guitar instructor Douglas F. breaks down five of the most common reasons people quit playing guitar, and what you can do to overcome your excuses. In everyday encounters, itâs surprisingly common to hear I used to play guitar, but after someone finds out that I play or teach guitar. What follows is a slew of excuses that Iâve compiled and compressed into the top five reasons for quitting guitar. You may have heard these excuses, and maybe even used a few yourself. When youre feeling discouraged, heres what you can do to push past your rut and stick with it! Self Doubt Lack of skill as a beginner is one of the most common reasons that people drop the guitar for good. In my opinion, this excuse makes the least amount of sense. With any new skill, why would anyone expect to be great without preparation and practice? This is nothing but a combination of self-doubt and classic learning frustration. In conversations like this, I like to share my personal experience: When I first started, I was not very good (AT ALL) at guitar, drums, or bass. The truth is, no one is born a musician; all it takes is the genuine desire to learn. This should not be confused with natural ability and the amount of time you have played guitar. Lack of Time / Time Management If you can devote 20 focused minutes to playing guitar every day, youâre on your way to greatness. Comparing the amount of time youâve played guitar to others is useless. People watch me play guitar and think that since I have played for about 10 years, it must take that long to play comfortably. Wrong; in fact, the amount of time you have played is pretty much irrelevant. Before starting with a new student, I often ask how long theyâve played guitar. Iâve learned over the years that the answer to this questions has very little correlation to the studentâs ability level. Iâve had students bumping out John Mayer songs after only a few months, and people who have tinkered around with guitar for 55 years and never decided to learn more than three songs. Hereâs a tip: Try recording yourself so you can hear how much youâve improved. Youâll be surprised, if youâre learning the right way, youâll notice that you sound and feel better every single time you pick up your guitar. Learning Guitar is Challenging If you have this excuse, youre not learning the right way. Learning and practicing should be fun the whole time I promise this is actually possible. Stop memorizing make habits instead. Donât let memorization stress you out! Donât bother memorizing chord structures, song structures, scales, when you can pull them up on devices, print them out, or get that chord poster they have in every music store. You donât need to know scales to learn songs, and if youâre learning scales before songs- please fire your instructor today. Dont waste your time and brain power. The habits will slide themselves into your playing- just like they do best. You will easily memorize things like chord shapes quicker than you may expect, because guitar playing is all about muscle memory! Boredom / Loss of Interest To me, this just screams that you arent having fun; probably for very justifiable reasons. Here are some of the reasons this may be.. Once you consider playing guitar as homework or feel dreadful about practicing, you know something is wrong! In a lot of cases, music instructors will choose the music for their students, when it should be the complete opposite. A good instructor will know how to take your favorites song, and create a way for you to play it at your skill level. Music is about the feeling you get when you play, there will never be a good reason to play music you donât enjoy: so stop playing the songs that bore you and find something you want to dance around to! If you dread playing a certain song because its too difficult, then thatâs another story. Play something that gets you grooving and hungry for more, and then go back to learning the difficult song. Unrealistic Expectations You have to remember that the musicians you look up to were also in your shoes at one point. In fact, they are still learning more, all the time! Change your mentality: Whats your goal, anyway? Is it to be able to play comfortably within a couple months? Could being a guitar playerâ simply mean playing a song you really like? Learning just one song is a much more realistic goal than setting out to become a rock god who can awe a crowd with a high-speed guitar solo. Set mini goals for yourself! Every day is a new chance to play guitar in a totally new mentality. Rock out and have fun! Remember, Itâs never too late to learn to play guitar, so if youve put it down, dont be afraid to pick it back up and give it another go! Post Author: Douglas F. A finite sequence is that which contains a finite number of terms. a1, a2, ,an( n is some finite value) An infinite sequence is that which contains an infinite number of terms. a1, a2, ,an, ( n is an infinite number) Different types of sequences are Arithmetic sequence or progression (A.P) d Common difference A.P is of the form a, a+d, a+2d ....... l Last term Last term = tn = a + (n-1) d a First term Sum of n terms = 2a + (n-1)d or a + l n number of terms Geometric sequence (G.P) r common ratio G.P is of the form a, ar, ar..... Last term = tn = ar(n-1) Harmonic sequence (H.P) H.P is of the foxrm 1a , 1(a+d) , 1(a+2d), tn = 1(nth term of corresponding A.P) Harmonic mean of two terms a and b is 2ab(a+b). A X H = G Here A stands for Arithmetic mean H stands for Harmonic mean and G stands for Geometric mean Example: Find the first three terms of the sequence tn = (-2)n/( n+1) Answer: First term = n = 1 t1 = (-2)1/( 1+1) = (-2)/( 2) = -1 Second term = n = 2 t2 = (-2)2/( 2+1) = 4/( 3) Third term = n = 3 t3 = (-2)3/( 3+1) = (-8)/( 4) = -2 The first three terms are -1, 4/3, -2
